3 Day Intensive Afro Hair Training

Day 1 – Foundations & Hair Science

​

Morning (Theory):

• Introduction & welcome, course goals

• Hair anatomy: structure, porosity, curl types, growth patterns

• Health & safety, consultation best practices (including cultural sensitivity)

• Product knowledge: moisturisers, leave-ins, styling products, synthetic hair

• Theory of detanglng, washing &  conditioning curly hair

Afternoon (Practical):

• Hands-on: working with mannequin heads – sectioning, detangling & prep

• Demonstration: blow-drying / diffusing afro hair safely (including heat precautions)

• Q&A and group review

• Hands-on: working with mannequin heads – sectioning, detangling & prep

• Blow-drying / diffusing afro hair safely (including heat precautions) on live models

• Q&A and group review

 

Day 2 – Styling Techniques

Morning (Theory + Demonstration):

• Protective styling: braids, twists, two-strand twists, Bantu knots

• Corn rows and cane-row technique, including base planning

• Extensions: adding hair, safe attachment methods, synthetic vs human hair

Afternoon (Hands-On Practice):

• Finishing techniques: dressing out, defining styles, setting

• Delegated practical time: students practice braiding, twisting, corn rows on mannequin / live models

Day 3 – Advanced Styling + Industry Skills

​

Morning (Theory & Demo):

• Styling for screen / media (film, TV, editorial): how Afro hair is used on set

• Period and contemporary styling inspiration + cultural context

• Working with synthetic hair and wig preparation

​

Afternoon (Practical + Assessment):

• Styling real / mannequin hair: create set styles (client brief simulation)

• Troubleshooting: dealing with common challenges (shrinkage, breakage, blending, frizz)

• Peer review & feedback

• Certification / wrap-up: students present their work, discuss take-home aftercare, network

Learn the science of Afro-textured hair & Product-Knowledge, to styling techniques such as Braiding, Plaiting, Twisting & Cornrowing Techniques and Smoothing / Blow-Drying – this course will empower you with a multitude of techniques to define & manipulate curl patterns & textures to create beautiful styles and textures.

You will also learn the basics of barbering afro hair, from a tapered afro to a fade. This is an intensive 1-2-1 course taught over the course of 4 days and is highly informative as well as hands on.

 

A kit worth £100 will be provided including a certificate on completion.
